Last night's camping--the first of three--was a bit of a better success than our first in Colorado.  Unfortunately the fog had settled in, so our view was pretty limited, even though we were camping basically on the beach.

After an early morning start we addressed the Pacific Coast Highway again and drove up to Redwood National Forest.  I (Tom) think this was my favorite part of California.  Our pictures and picture taking do not do justice to the beauty and majesty of these trees.  Standing under them, or driving by them, made one feeling as if we were in a magical place similar to what an elf-run forest of Narnia or a forest in Tolkien's Middle Earth would make one feel.

After two days and three nights in San Fran, we made the slow trek up the California coast along the Pacific Coast Highway.  The view was amazing.  Over and over again, we had to stop our book on tape to point out some breathtaking view.

After a very long drive from Salt Lake City, we arrived safe and sound in San Francisco.  Our hosts for the next three nights were Julie, Erik and Kathy.  Thank you so very much for your unexpected kindness and hospitality (and the amazing food!).

While in San Francisco, we toured the Golden Gate Bridge, road our bikes across into Sausalito, rode the ferry back across, walked all over the place, ate in Chinatown, searched for parking, walked up the steepest paved road I've ever been on, got our oil changed, did a lot of people watching, and enjoyed the company of our hosts.

Had a ridiculously beautiful scenic drive from Park City to Salt Lake City (some pictures below).

Stayed the night with Mark, Melissa and Noel.  Thank you both for you hospitality, for feeding us, hanging out, and for letting Noelle hang out with us a bit.  She's pretty awesome!

Next day, the longest drive so far--from SLC to San Francisco!

From the Colorado mountains to the mountains of beautiful Utah!

Our friend Ruth (of whom, will be henceforth referred to as RaJaJa for obvious reasons) gave us her bed and her apartment, along with her roommate Dani.  RaJaJa was out of town, but Dani--our amazing host--showed us around Park City.

In the morning we had breakfast with Ty and his out-of-his-league girlfriend, Jenny.  Then it was off to Salt Lake City.

Thank you Dani, Rajaja, Ty and Jenny.  Park City was amazingly beautiful.

We were given the recommendation to take the scenic route to Utah, via Steamboat Springs, CO.  Gone were the city lights and the comfort of a bed; in its place were the expectations of communing with nature and the trial run of our camping equipment.

In Steamboat, we bathed/sat around  in the local natural hot springs, watched what appeared to be a high school ski jump team, walked around the cute downtown, road our bikes from our camp sight, and had a moderate amount of success on our first night camping.

Our amazing host in Denver, Lauren, was gracious enough to give us her time, energy, food and even the use of her bed.  Thank you!  Unfortunately our stay was too short and we had to hit the road a bit early in the morning.  Next stop, Steamboat Springs, CO.
