A Little Bit About Tom & Ruth
Born in Missoula, MT and raised in Palm Bay, FL, as the middle of five children to a military family I learned early the skills necessary to appease and negotiate life in a packed house. My wife, Ruth, grew up in the Appalachian foothills of Greenville, SC. As one of six children, she learned early the meaning of scarcity, want and abundant love. As a superstar child, she was recruited by Covenant College on Lookout Mountain, GA to play soccer and grace the campus with athleticism, beauty and charm. As an athletically mediocre child, I wasn’t recruited by anyone. In our good Lord’s providence, I went to the University of Florida where the Lord began to work on my heart and life to show me the beauty, power and intruding grace of the Gospel. Through this growing process, the Lord has again and again, with patience and mercy, changed my heart to fall in love with and follow after Jesus as the Christ. During this time, and in subsequent years, the Lord also began to provoke me toward a love of learning. Since then, my life has been a continual struggle of not having enough time to read all the books that I have wanted to read and engage all the people I have wanted to be absorbed in conversation with.
I met Ruth in Chattanooga, TN, where the beauty stumbled on the geek. Subsequently (as a mediocre child, I know not to pass up a good opportunity when I see one) we got married and have had four years of wedded bliss. I just recently graduated from Covenant Theological Seminary with an MDiv. and am raising support to serve Grace Seattle Church as a pastoral apprentice. My hope and prayer is that I will continue to be forever in love with the person and work of Jesus as the Christ, serving Him faithfully in His Church and my family, all the while bringing this good news of intruding, healing grace to a watching, broken world.
